As part of the President's High Growth Job Training Initiative, the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) has collaborated with business leaders, educators, and others to create comprehensive and readily accessible industry competency models that document the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for workplace success in high-demand industries. The competency models also serve as a foundation to build specific career ladders/lattices within industries.
Description
Within CareerOneStop.org, the Competency Model Clearinghouse site hosts two new tools. The "Build a Model" tool lets you customize one of 6 national industry competency models to reflect the specific workforce needs of regional economies, or build a new industry model using generic foundation building blocks. The "Career Ladder/Lattice Tool" lets you select a customized competency model and build a sequence of jobs or occupations on that foundation. The Career Ladder/Lattice tool prompts users to spell out the characteristics and requirements of each job in the ladder and identify the critical developmental experiences needed to progress among jobs, including specific education and work experiences. These two interactive tools are a resource for strategic partners in talent development to build, save, and download materials to help business, educators, and workforce professionals communicate the skills and qualifications individuals need to progress successfully in 21st century careers.
