The construction site provides tremendous opportunities to teach students to take responsibility for themselves, for those around them, and for the project as a whole. This means giving students opportunities to “take responsibility” and not just “take directions”.

Description

Similarly, careers in construction at all levels of the industry require certain good leadership skills that a YouthBuild student can develop, strengthen and practice with help from their construction trainer. With this webinar, YouthBuild USA and guest presenters will introduce DOL YouthBuild grantees to standard YouthBuild Leadership Development competencies and discuss how to integrate leadership development into work site activities and construction career development.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explore how youth leadership development competencies can be assessed in the construction training component through appropriate developmental benchmarks.
  2. Learn to identify, integrate and assess leadership development opportunities on the worksite.
  3. Learn how to strengthen the ability of construction staff to engage and support youth leadership development.
  4. Discuss challenges, and promising practices from peers and graduate leaders in the YouthBuild network.
