Description
Community colleges and WDBs each play important roles in the education and employment of the American worker and are increasingly finding ways to combine their efforts to achieve institutional goals and better serve students and job seekers. Yet while leaders in both systems recognize the value of these alliances, their efforts are challenged by differences in policies, practices, and cultures. Workforce boards and community colleges are working together throughout the country and their partnerships provide examples of effective strategies. Presenters from three states will discuss their collaborations and provide concrete steps that leaders and staff can take together to further their mutual goals and overcome common challenges. Collaboration is essential to meet the nation’s goals in education and economic competitiveness. Developing mutually beneficial partnerships between colleges and WDBs can sometimes be difficult; however, colleges and workforce boards that work systematically to address the complex challenges and needs inherent in local labor markets will have a head start toward accomplishing their goals.
This webinar is part of a series showcasing strategies and resources developed by community colleges that are of broad interest to educational institutions engaged in career-focused education and training. Topics of upcoming webinars include sustaining grant-funded projects for long-term success and free resources for apprenticeship and work-based learning. Previous topics (available as recordings) explored making industry experts into expert instructors to increase student success, resources for development education using competency-based education, and scaling career pathways in Wisconsin.
