Description

Community colleges have developed innovative methods to deliver wrap-around student support services via career coaches, success coaches, and navigators, as grantees funded by the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant program. These services include a focus on delivering individualized and coordinated student support across a wide variety of departments and systems, such as academic guidance and advising, academic support, career coaching, and supplemental services. 

New Mexico’s Skill Up Network Pathway Acceleration in Technology & Healthcare Consortium (SUN PATH) implemented Job Development Career Coaches (JDCC) co-located at eleven community college and the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions’ Workforce Connection Centers. The JDCCs provide students with individualized career blueprints, career readiness workshops, guidance with the New Mexico Workforce Connection system. During the webinar, SUNPATH will describe the role JDCCs play in the delivery of services to New Mexico community college students.

Developed by Great Falls College – University of Montana, RevUp Montana designed an Online Workforce Navigator Training Course based on promising practices of student support services. RevUP Montana’s workforce navigators assist students with career exploration and job placement, and act as employer liaisons for community colleges. The workforce navigator professional training course is built in an open online modular format to assist organizations looking to implement a workforce navigator roles or positions.

The SkillsCommons Field Guide of TAACCCT Innovations is a compilation of innovations in motion, created under the SkillsCommons leadership team at California State University-MERLOT. The field guide shares insights and pragmatic applications by state systems and colleges who are bolstering workforce development.

This webinar is part of the Innovations Leading to Career Success Webinar Series and showcases strategies and resources developed by community colleges engaged in career-focused education and training. The colleges featured throughout the series are grantees of the TAACCCT program, a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Education.
